Bungower Labradors is a family-owned business run by couple Rob and Amanda and their daughter Sam, located on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. As a breeder, we strive to breed litters of sound body and mind, protecting the integrity of the breed and encouraging others to bring the loyal and smart naturedness of a Labrador into their lives. 

As a family, we had Macey, our first Labrador, in our home for nearly 16 years. When she passed, it wasn’t long before we felt we had to bring another Labrador in to help fill the warm, supportive role Macey left behind. In 2017, we bought our black Labrador, Bonnie home from her breeders, Mataganah Labradors, in NSW. As a puppy, Bonnie was quick to learn and took to activities such as scent training and search and rescue. She quickly formed an unbreakable bond with Rob, and together they completed assistance dog training, passing the GAT in 2020. Bonnie supports Rob in social and public settings and assists with mental health stimulation. Recognising the value of a well bred Labrador in supporting emergency service workers affected by PTSD, Bungower Labradors is committed to training and donating one puppy from each litter to a person that will benefit from having a Labrador in their life.

In late 2020, we connected with Barbara and Steve at Mataganah Labradors again and in April 2021, bought home our yellow girl, Luna. Upon collection of Luna, Barbara and Steve agreed to allow us to breed with her, and a week later, Bungower Labradors was born. 

Luna is an inquisitive, smart, rambunctious Labrador who has has been training in therapy alongside Bonnie. She is very sociable and loves meeting new friends (human and animal alike). She carries the same loyal traits as most Labradors we come across and loves a good cuddle. She is also a notorious sock thief. 

As first-time breeders, the whole process of becoming registered and learning the ropes was daunting. Thankfully, we have been able to partner with Kristie at Sohali Spirit Labradors (VIC) who has mentored us through this new adventure.
